6th Birthday Party Celebration Ideas

Reaching the age of 6 years old is kind of a big deal. At least it is to your 6 year old! At this age, most 6 year olds have entered the first grade and consider themselves to be much superior to anyone who is younger than them. After all, they are officially in grammar school and attempting to establish some sense of independence.

When your child reaches the age of 6, you should already be somewhat familiar with the kid’s birthday party circuit where you spend the next 6 or 7 years of your life, usually every other weekend, transporting your child from one birthday party to the next. From one theme to the next. With each parent trying to outdo the other parent to see who can create the most memorable birthday party celebration of all time! Thankfully at this age, there are plenty of birthday party ideas and options that you can plan for that will not only get your child excited, but will have you ranking high on the birthday party meter and make you the envy of all first grade parents! Well, maybe not so much, but at least your child will be happy.

The first big decision is whether you want to have the party at your house or at some other location. If you choose to have the party outside of your home, you can still self-host it at a park or even a restaurant. Or you have the option to have the party at a place that offers birthday packages. Many parents choose to go with the places that offer birthday packages. They may cost more, but it means less clean up and planning on your part and depending on the place, could be more fun for the kids (unless you are the house on the block with the amazing backyard or basement). Be prepared for some drama (note: may also come from the parents).

Here are a few 6th birthday party ideas to consider:

Birthdays based on popular movie themes:

All of the movies and television shows listed below are great options for building a themed birthday party. Party supplies based on each movie or show are generally readily available, which makes the job of planning that much easier. The party supply store may even have themed invitations you can send out. Other options for your party can include playing songs from the movie or television show, playing games such as movie trivia or setting up other challenges based on the movie or show. You can also have themed prize giveaways for the winners. Make it even more memorable by setting aside 2 hours for the kids to all watch the movie together. Don’t forget about your themed cake.
